This blog article tells the story of how a group of guys ended up at La Manga Golfing Club, this six strong group of golf mad guys, whose partners do not golf, have no interest in golf and have decided to stay at home for this trip are seeking a bit of time away together. The guys are keen to go somewhere warm and sunny for their 5 day trip and want at least three different and challenging golf courses to keep them occupied. Money is not too much of a problem for them, but they want good value and are keen to combine their golf with a bit of tennis and maybe even a kick around the football pitch or two while they are on their lads jolly. It is for all these reasons that they have chosen La Manga Club, as their destination.
Easy To Get To
They’re travelling off-season so they know they can get flights from their various locations to Alicante. Alicante is a perfect airport arrival for La Manga Club because it’s only about an hours drive from the resort and they’re familiar with the airport, so that works out well for them. They know they can get a couple of taxis at about 130 Euros each and they also know that you probably won’t need a car once they arrive, but they’ve plumped for car hire nonetheless.
The reason this group needs a decent sized car is to accommodate all the golf clubs. Six sets of golf clubs plus six bags is a challenge for any car. The guys had toyed with the idea of hiring clubs when they get there, because they’ve heard that the rental equipment at La Manga is excellent and even caters for the left-hander. However they’re in agreement that they’re all so precious about their game that they want their own clubs, which is quite understandable.
Great Accommodation
Accommodation-wise, you’d imagine a group of guys would opt for the 5-star luxury of the Hotel Principe Felipe, but no, one of the golfers is a mad keen home chef who wants to impress the boys with his cooking at least once while they’re away, so they’ve opted for a Los Olivos apartment. The benefit of the apartment is that they feel as if they can come and go as they please and they can experience the great cuisine that their friend has been banging on about for so long. They’re happy to share twin rooms, so the 3 bedroom option is ideal for them.
Golfing for All Abilities
When it comes to golf itself, they want to play each of the three courses at least once and they want to create a friendly tennis tournament. They’re also looking to take advantage of the Golf Academy to get some help with their shot game in particular. For this, they’re aware that they’ll need to make a decision soon and book well before they arrive.
Even though they’re visiting La Manga Club off-season, they don’t want to leave anything to chance, so they’ve booked six tee-off times at the same time as their accommodation. They plan to play all three courses twice, have planned a round early-ish morning each of the three full days they’ll be in the resort, and again late afternoon. That way, neither lunch nor a little tipple at the 19th will be affected by their schedule. Also, this means that they can get some tennis organised in the middle of the day.
Preparing for La Manga Golfing Club
So, now they have their arrangements made, they just need to organise packing. They all play high standard golf at home, so they’re accustomed to the strict dress code at La Manga Club. What they don’t do so often at home though is play golf in shorts. The weather doesn’t normally lend itself to shorts all that often where they live, but ever hopeful for their holiday, they’ve all agreed that they’ll take a pair or two with them to encourage the sun to shine on their game.
Let’s hope if does!
